Dr. Bernard Bendok’s interview on WFRV’s CBS News on Northwestern Memorial’s participation in one of the world’s largest aneurysm research studies. The Familial Intracranial Aneurysm (FIA) Study is a collaborative research effort involving 23 centers throughout the world and seeks to identify the genes that cause the development and rupture of brain aneurysms.

New medical device reduces risk of recurrent strokes
In May of 2006, Northwestern Memorial became one of the first hospitals in Chicago to perform a stent procedure using the Wingspan stent, a new device designed to prevent recurring strokes caused by intracranial atherosclerotic disease or the narrowing of blood vessels in and around the brain. A recent Lifetime of Health article focused on one of the patients Dr. Bernard Bendok treated with this stent and his dramatic recovery from intracranial artery blockage.
